Industries Assistance Commission Report
Wood and Metal-Working Machinery, Etc.
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, announced today
that the Government has accepted the recommendations of the
Industries Assistance Commission in its repo rt on Wood and
Metal-Working Machinery, Etc.
The Government's decision to implement the
Commission's recommendations will mean that duties of
General will apply to gas operated welding, etc. equipment
and electric furnaces and ovens, and 25% General'for the other
goods covered by the report.
Mr Whitlam said that significant employment effects
Were unlikely to result from the implementation of the
recommendations. A detailed statement of the Customs tariff changes
arising from the Government's decision will be issued by the
Minister for Customs and Excise.-when arrangements have been
finalised to implement the new duty rates.
