NEW ENGLAND NEW STATE MOVEMENT
Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Menzies
The Prime Minister ( Sir Robert Menzies) and the
Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the Country Party ( the
Rt. Hon. J. McEwen) today received a deputation from the
New England New State Movement comprising the President?
Dr, P. A. Wright, and the Campaign Director, Mr. U. R. Ellis,
The purpose of the Deputation was to put again
to the Prime Minister and Mr. McEwen the case for the creation
of new States in the Commonwealth.
The Prime Minister offered to take the matter up
with the Premiers of the States at the Premiers' Conference
to be held early next year. He asked the New England New
State Movement, in collaboration with other State Movements,
to prepare a written statement of their case which the Prime
Minister will circulate to Premiers and list for discussion
at the Conference.
