I am pleased to announce today the launch of the inaugural - Australian Heads of Government Violence Prevention Award.
The Award will be given to outstanding practical projccts which clcarly contribute to making Australia a less violent society. It will be made on an annual basis and will bc for a total of up to $ 100,000.
The Award is one of a number of important Commonwealth initiatives supported by Premiers and Chief Ministers last year to reduce violence in Australia.
The Award is designed to encourage anti-violence initiatives and to assist governments in identifying and developing violence prevention programs. It represents a firm commitment by all Australian governments to makc Australia a safer society.
The Award is open to any individual or organisation making an exceptional contribution to reducing violence within Australia, or having the clear potential to make such a contribution.
