ROYAL VISIT 1963 ITINERARY
S tatement by the Prime MinisterL the Rt. Hon. R. G. Menzies
Her Majesty the Queen has given her approval
to an itinerary for her visit to Australia with His Royal
Highness the Duke of Edinburgh in February and March next
year. The itinerary wa-prepared by Her Majesty's
Australian Secretary Sir Roy Dowling, in consultation
with the State Directors for the visit. The preparation
of detailed State programmes is in the hands of the State
Governments, who will shortly submit them through me for
the Queen's approval. The itinerary for the Royal Visit is based
on the rmaximum use of the Royal Yacht " Britannia" which
Her Majesty will use as her home wherever possible and as
a means of transport and of rest between engagements.
The use of the Royal Yacht will also allow
Her Majesty to enter the cities of Melbourne, Hobart,
Sydney, Brisbane and Fremantl. e from the seaward. Furthermore,
it is Her Majesty's intention to use the yacht for
entertainment purposes throughout the -isit.
The detailed programmes for the visit of
Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh to the Australian
Capital Territory and to the Northern Territory will be
submitted to Her Majesty at the same time as the State
programmes and when her approval has been obtained, will
be announced simultaneously' with the announcements of
State programmes. The itinerary is as follows
