VISIT TO INDONESIA, SINGAPORE AND MALAYSIA
Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. William McMahon,
C11, MP
The Prime Minister ( Mr McMahon) leaves Australia on
Monday 5 June by chartered Qantas 707 for a visit to Indonesia,
Singapore and Malaysia.
During his visit he will have discussions with President
Soeharto, Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak.
Mr McMahon will also have talks with other senior Government leaders
and officials. Arrangements are being made for the Prime Minister
to see some Australian aid projects, and he will be briefed on
significant developments in each country.
Mr McMahon will be accompanied by members of his
personal staff. On this occasion, he will not be accompanied by
Mrs McMahon. The Hon. JoD. M.. Dobie, tMP, Assistant Minister, will
accompany the Prime Minister.
An advising team travelling with the Prime Minister will
include the Secretary to the D: artment of the Prime Minister and
Cabinet, Sir John Bunting, the Secretary to the Department of
Defence, Sir Arthur Tange, Mr HD. Anderson, First Assistant
Secretary to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr R. S. Livingston,
Deputy Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, and
advisers from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and
Foreign Affairs. Dr Marc Faunce will travel with the party as personal
physician to the Prime Minister.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Nigel Bowen,
MP, will be in Djakarta during the Prime Minister's visit to
Indonesia. Mr McMahon will visit Indonesia from 5 to 8 June,
Singapore from 8 to 11 June and Malaysia from 11 to 14 June.
He will return to Australia on 15 June.
