TARIFFS ON DOMESTIC APPLIANCES
' he Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, today announced
details of the Government's acceptance, with minor variations,
of the report of the Tariff Baord ( now Industries Assistance
Commission) on domestic appliances, heating and cooling
equipment, etc.
Mr. Whitlam said that in general, the Tariff Board
has recommended a tariff duty of 25% for the goods under reference.
However, there are several exceptions to this whereby some products

The Prime Minister today approved grants for the crafts, totalling
$ 139,284.
The grants were recommended by the Crafts Board of the Australian
Council for the Arts, and go to all States.
The Chairman of the Crafts Board, Mrs Marea Gazzard, said that
these, as well as last year's grants of $ 199,481, showed a welcome
revival of interest in craft activities. The Board is again calling
for applications for grants from craftsmen throughout Australia to

AUSTRALIAN INVESTMENT OVERSEAS
The Prime minister, Mr Whitlan announced today a new
Australian Government policy for overseas investment, especially
in developing countries.
Mr Whitlam said that much Australian investment would take
place in any case in overseas countries and it was the intention of
the Australian Govwrnment to encourage investment which would meet the
type of criteria applied to investment in Australia.

left today for a study tour that will take her to ten major
European and North American cities. While away she will
also represent Australia at a United Nations forum on the

The purpose of her visit will be to establish
contact with women and groups in other countries who are

CONSTITUTIONAL COMMITTEE
The Prime Minister, Mr E. G. Whitlam, said that
Standing Committee appointed by resolution of the Constitutional
Convention to consider in detail the matters raised at the Convention
in relation to the financial provisions of the Constitution, the powers
of Governments to manage the economy and the place of Local Governmrent
under the Constitution, had met in Canberra today.

AUSTRALIAN GOVERINMENT OFFERS OF ASSISTANCE IN
N. S. W. AND QUEENSLAND FLOODS
The Prime Minister today expressed the Australian Government's
concern about the damage and the personal distress being suffered by
people in Iew South Wales and Queensland as a result of the floods in
these States. The Prime Minister said that the defence services are
co-operating with the State Civil Defence and emergency services in
providing assistance and that any requests for assistance submitted
