TARIFF BOARD REPORT CIGARETTE PAPER
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, announced today
that the Government has accepted the recommendation of
the Tariff Board in its report on Cigarette Paper.
The report covered cigarette tissue paper for use
in the manufacture of cigarettes, cigarette paper or
cigarette papers, but excluded cigarette papers in leaves
or booklets containing a number of loose leaves.
Implementation of the recommendations will mean
that the products covered by the report will be dutiable

INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE COMMISSION TO REPORT ON
RURAL RESEARCH AND PROMOTION
The Prime Minister announced today that he had forwarded
two references to the Industries Assistance Commission on the
question of Australian Government assistance in financing rural
research and the promotion of rural products.
Mr. Whitlam said that the references were in accordance
with the statement made by Dr. Patterson as the Minister representing
the Minister for Primary Industry, when introducing the Wool Industry

TORRES STRAIT MARINE PARK
The Prime Minister, Mr whitlam said tonight that he wrote
to Mr Bielkc Petersen in December 1972 suggesting that Papua New Guinea,
Queensland and Australian officials hold discussions, but
Mr Bjelke Petersen had said he could not see that any good purpose
would be served by such a meeting.
Since then, Ministerial and official discussions have
been held between the Australian and Papua New Guinea Governments.

ANIMAL HEALTH LABORATORY
The Australian Government has approved a project to provide
major protection for the Australian livestock industry.
It has decided to build a laboratory complex, to be called
the Animal Health Laboratory, at Geelong, Victoria.
The capital cost of the complex is expected to be $ 56 million.
This spending will begin in 1976/ 77 and will be spread over five
years. The laboratory will help provide protection on a national

yesterday have already been announced. Mr Crean has done so and

a statement on the Animal Health Laboratory. In brief, we have

It is almost 42 years since the Australian Broadcasting
Commission was founded with the requirement that it " shall
broadcast from the national broadcasting stations adequate
and comprehensive programs, and shall take in the interests
of the community all such measures as in the opinion of the
Commission are conducive to the full development of suitable
