APPOINTMENT TO THE PUBLIC SERVICE BOARD
The Prime Minister, the Hon. E. G. Whitlam M. P.
announced tonight that the Governor General has appointed
Mr John Casey Taylor as a Commissioner of the Public Service
Board. Mr Taylor is aged 43 years and is currently First
Assistant Secretary in charge of the Protection Policy
Division of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
He is a career public servant having joined the Australian
Public Service in 1953 as a Personnel Cadet. Mr Tay]. or

PRICES JUSTIFICATION TRIBUNAL
PRICES OF IMPORTED GOODS
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlan, announced today
that the Prices Justification Tribunal had begun to conduct
field surveys to check the prices of imported goods on
sale at retail stores.
Mr Whitlam~ said that these prices would be checked
back against the landed prices of goods. These figures
would be supplied by the Department of Customs and Excise.

INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE COMMISSION REPORT
NITROGENOUS FERTILISERS
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, today released
the Industries Assistance Commission report on Nitrogenous
Fertilisers. Mr Whitlam said that the Government's decision
on the report will be announced at the earliest
practicable date.

PRIME MINISTER'S VISIT TO EUROPE
The Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, announced today that
arrangements were being finalised for him to visit a number of
European countries over a period of five weeks in December and
January. Leaving Australia on 14 December, Mr. Whitlan would visit
Belgium, Britain and Ireland before Christmas, and thereafter he
hoped to visit Malta, Greece, the Netherlands, France, Italy,

INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE COMMISSION REFERENCE
IRON AND STEEL
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, today announced that
he had sent a reference to the Industries Assistance Commission
on the question of assistance needed to support the continued
growth of Australia's iron and steel industry.
Mr Whitlam said that continuity of a soundly based
and efficient iron and steel industry is fundamental to the
Australian economy and that the Government is concerned to

PAYMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT GRANTS
QUEENSLAND
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam said today that a
cheque for $ 8,954,000 had been paid to the Queensland
Treasury following the Governor-General's assent to the
Local Government Grants Bill.
The sum of $ 8,954,000 represents the total
amfount allocated to Queensland in Federal grants for
local government during 1974/ 75. The Local Government
Grants Bill was passed by the House of Representatives

PAYMENT TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam announced today that
he had advised State Premiers that money allocated under
the Local Government Grants Bill, 1974, was being paid
today to the respective State Treasuries.
This follows the passage of the Bill through both
Houses of Parliament last week. The Governor-General
gave his assent to the Bill yesterday.
Mr Whitlam said that the assistance would be
provided to each State in one lump sum payment. This was

NEW COMMUNITY HEALTH PROJECTS
The Prime Minister and Member for Werriwa, Mr Cough
Whitlam, today welcomed the new grants for community health
projects in the Western Metropolitan Region of Sydney. These
were announced in Canberra yesterday by the Acting Minister
for Health, Dr Moss Cass.
Mr Whitlam, said that he had always believed that the
health care obtainable everywhere in Australia should be as good
as the health care obtainable anywhere in Australia. ' Too often

SPORTING AND RECREATION GRANTS
The Prime Minister and Member for Werriwa, Mr
Gough Whitlam, said today he was delighted that the District
Sporting Complex at Ingleburn was to receive a $ 65,000 grant
from the Australian Government.
The grant was announced last week by the Minister
for Tourism and Recreation, Mr Frank Stewart, as part of
the Australian Government's capital assistance program for
leisure facilities. Mr Whitlam said the total cost of the Ingleburn

AUTHORITY INJECTION MOULDING MACHINES
