SENATOR BERT M4ILLINER
I was deeply grieved to hear of Senator milliner-' s--
death. As well as being a respected and admired member
of the Labor Party and the trade union movement, Bert
Milliner was a close family friend.
His long years of service to the party included a
quarter of a century as a member of the Queensland Central
Executive and 9 years as President of the Queensland Branch.
He served his union, his party and the Parliament

PETROLEUM AND MINERALS AUTHORITY
SUNDAY 29 JUE 1975
One of the prcaises on which my Government was elected was our
undertaking to stop the overseas takeover of Australia's mineral and energy
resources. That process had been going on unchecked under successive Liberal-
Country Party Govern-rents. hben Labor came in, we had reached the stage where
62 per cent of Australia's energy resources that is, cur coal, oil, gas and
uranium were in foreign hands. We weren't prepared to tolerate that situation.

AUSTRALIAN ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF ILO
GOVEPJ0ING BODY
The Prime Minist * er, Mr Gough Whitlam, announced today
that Dr P. B. Cook, O-BE, Australian Ambassador and Special
Labour Adviser in Europe and head of Australia's delegation
to the recent Conference of the International Labour
Organisation in Geneva, had been elected as Chairman of the
* Governing Body of the ILO for 1975-76.

WOOLLOOMOOLOO PROJECT
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, and the Premier
of New South Wales, Mr Lewis, today signed an agreement
approving expenditure of $ 17 million for the re-development
of Woolloomooloo. The project will be financed by the Australian
Government, and carried out jointly by the Australian and
New South Wales Governments and the Sydney City Council.
Most of the funds will be devoted to acquiring land.

AT THE OPENING OF THE MEETING OF THE CAPITAL CITY LORD MAYORS,
27 JUNE 1975, AT THE TOWN HALL, CITY OF SYDNEY
My LORD MAYORS,
WE LAST MET 18 MONTHS AGO IN CANBERRA. WE MEET
AGAIN TODAY IN THE TOWN HALL OF THE CITY WHICH GREW
FROM THE FIRST EUROPEAN SETTLEMENT IN AUSTRALIA, 187
YEARS AGO. IN 1842 IT BECAME THE FIRST MUNICIPALITY
IN NEW SOUTH WALES. IT IS INDEED AN APPROPRIATE VENUE
FOR A MEETING BETWEEN THE HEADS OF AUSTRALIA'S CENTRAL
CITIES AND ITS NATIONAL GOVERNMENT.

The Prime Minister and Member for Werriwa, Mr Whitlam,
has announced approval of a grant to the Methodist Church
of New South Wales Property Trust for the Ingleburn Pre-school
Kindergarten and Child Care Centre.
Mr Whitlam said that $ 6,422 had been allocated for the
purchase of equipment for the Pre-school Kindergarten and Child
Care Centre. The level of grant was based on an approved list supplied
by the Methodist Church of New South Wales Property Trust.

AUSTRALIAN MARITIME COLLEGE
The Prime Minister, the Hon. E. G. Whitlam, has
confirmed the Government's decision, announced on 10 June 1975,
to establish an Australian M aritime College to provide
education and training for officers in the Australian
maritime industry and to site it at Launceston.
The decision results from a report on " Training
Requirements for Sea-going Personnel" from Mr Malcolm Summers,
who is the Royal Commissioner inquiring into various aspects

1. Delighted to be here at the Italian Australian Club in
Launceston one of the only Italian Clubs in Australia that.
I haven't visited before.
Only two weeks aco I was at the Apia Club in Sydney
where I always feel at home with President Jim Bayutti, a great
Italian Australian who has done so much for his new country by
continuing to care for his homeland. I mention in passing that
he is on the board of Qantas and is the head of the new ethnic
radio station in Sydney, which is serving the multi-linual
