THE AUSTRALIA-JAPAN FOUNDATION
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, today announced
that the Government had decided to legislate during the next
session of Parliament for the establishment of an Australia-
Japan Foundation. The objectives of the Foundation will be
to deepen and widen contacts between Australia and Japan in all
fields, including business, academic, cultural, scientific
and the trade unions.

HOBART TRANSPORT ADVISER
Mr R. D. Phillips, Deputy Secretary of the Department of
Transport, has resumed duty in the Department after serving
for approximately three months as special adviser to the
Premier of Tasmania on Transport co-ordination in the Hobart
area. Mr Phillips was appointed to this position in April as a result
of discussions between the Prime Minis-ter and the Premier,
Mr Neilson.

Following his discussions with the Chief Minister of
Papua New Guinea, Mr Michael Somare, today, the Prime Minister
said that he wished to make crystal clec-r the Austral. ian Goverrnent's

SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE, 11 AUGUST 1975
I welcome on behalf of the Australian Government
the overseas delegates to this important assembly. Among
you are distinguished war veterans; many of you are renowned
for acts of conspicuous valour in the field or as prisoners of
war. It is an honour to have you among us. Your presence
is a reminder of the great world-wide fraternity of
ex-servicemen the universal kinship between men and women

The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, today released the
Report on Radio by the Priorities Review Staff. w
Mr Whitlam said that although the Government did not
agree with all its recommendations, the report should be a
valuable contribution to public debate on radio in Australia.
" He said that since requesting the PRS to make the
review last year, the Government has pursued its commitment
to promote and support public radio with the establishment
of experimental stations in Sydney and Melbourne.

ENTRY OF FURTHER GROUP OF VIETNAMESE REFUGEES
The Prime Minister announced today that Australia
had agreed to resettle approximately 300 more refugees
from Vietnam. The refugees will be flown by chartered Qantas 747
jet to Brisbane on Saturday morning, 9 August, where they
are due at 11.00 a. m.
They will be resettled in Brisbane, where Queensland
authorities have assured support and assistance.
At present about two-thirds of the refugees are on

MATTER, OUR OPPONENTS ARE VERY FOND OF KNOCKING ANY
SORT OF GOVERNMENT EXPENDITURE, AS IF ALL GOVERNMENT
EXPENDITURE WERE WASTEFUL AND UNNECESSARY, WE HAVE TO
REMEMBER THAT THE LIBERALS IN OFFICE WASTED MILLIONS OF
DOLLARS IN GRANTS TO WEALTHY SCHOOLS, EXPENSIVE SUBSIDIES
