ABORIGINAL EMPLOYMENT
The Australian Government will take steps to recruit
Aborigines into the Australian Public Service.
A team of senior officers from the Public Service Board
and the Department of Aboriginal Affairs will leave on Sunday for
several weeks of field investigations on employment opportunities for
Aboriginals in the Public Service.
The Board has already established an inter-divisional
committee to co-ordinate activities on the recruitment of Aborigines.

SOLTDARITY ' IT T-HE COLONIAL PEOPLE' OF AFRICA
The Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Mr Whitlam, said today that t}' e Australian neople and Government
supnorted the inalienable right to self-determination and
independence of the peoples of Namibia, Zimbabwe and Portuguese
territories in Africa.
In a statement on the occasion of Africa Liberation
Day ( today, 25 May), Mr Whitlam said that this support was
clearly manifested in the actions of the present Government.

I promised to have a press conference every Tuesday that
I was in Canberra, I had hoped that I would be able to
have them alternating between Tuesday morning and
Tuesday afternoon so that the afternoon papers and the

seminar than the Coombs Lecture Theatre of this university. I do not
need to tell you of the dedicated and untiring service Dr. Coombs has
given to both the arts and the Aboriginal people of this country.

VICTORIAN ELECTIONS
Clyde Holding fought a good clean campaign
and increased Labor's share of the vote since the
1970 election. Labor's candidates polled more votes than
the Liberals, but the boundaries in Victoria have ensured
that the Liberals have won more than-twjice the ' nuiTbbir o6f
seats as the Labor Party.
The real losers in this election have been
the DLP and the Country Party. The DLP vote has fallen
catastrophically. The public have shown what they think

REPORT ( F AUSTRALIAN SCIENTISTS
Attached is a cony of the Rlnort of the Australian
scientists who attended the meeting with Frcach scientists in
Canberra from 7 9 May 1973o Agreement between the two
delegations was reached on a number of ooints, and these are
set out in Section A of the attached Rsnort. This section
also annears in the Report of the French delegation.
Both Renorts were tabled in the House of Renresentatives
by the Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, on 17 May 1973.

today announced that Australia would contribute $ 250,000 to
assist Zambia in its efforts to develop import-export routes
alternative to those formerly operating through Rhodesia.
Mr Whitlam said that in making a contribution,
Australia was joining Britain, Canada, New Zealand and other
0 countries who are assisting Zambia in its urgent need for

TOWN HALL, MELBOURNE, 16 MAY 1973
When I asked the people of Australia to elect a Labor

TASK FORCE ON THE NATIONAL ESTATE
Mr Justice Hope, of the Court of Appeal division
of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, has agreed to act as
Chairman of the Government's proposed Task Force on the
National Estate.
I am grateful to Mr Justice Hope for his ready
agreement to chair this important inquiry and to the Premier
and Government of New South Wales for releasing him for this work.
