The Commonwealth Attorney-General ( Sir Garfield
Barwick) left London by air on Wednesday on his return
journey to Australia. He took a leading part in the two cases in the
Privy Council in which hotel-keepers in Melbourne and
Brisbane challenged the validity of the licence fees imposed
by State law. The States of Victoria and Queensland, supported
by the Commonwealth and by the other four States, succeeded in

The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. R. G. Menzies,
announced today that amendments to the Public Service Act
passed by Parliament in December, 1960 come into force today
1lthi May, 1961. The alterations arose from the (..-vern~ ment's
consideration of the recommendations of the Boyer Committee
and the Prime Minister again acknowledged the valuable work
done by the Committee in its comprehensive and constructive

LATE HONOURABLE PARKER J. MOLONEY
Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon, R. G. Menzies
SThe Prime Minister announced today that a State
Funeral would be accorded the late Honourable Parker J.
Moloney, who was Minister for Markets and Transport in the
Scullin Ministry from 1929 to 1931. The late Mr. Moloney was
0subsequently Chairman of the Australian Dried Fruits Control
Board until he retired in 1957. He is survived by two sons
