AUSTRALIANS PLAN ANTARCTIC JOURNEY
Statement by the Department of External Affairs
The Antarctic Division of the Department of External Affaira has
drawn up plans for a major antarctic journey next summer.
The object will be to carry out seismic ice depth measurements for
Sdistance of 850 miles inland from Wilkes Station to link up the work of
t-Australians in 1961 with other seismic work carried out by the Russians
at Vostok station.

The Acting Prime Minister, the Right Honourable John McEwen,
announced today the appointment of Professor SUNDERLAND, C. MoGø,
and Mr. KENNETH MYqR, as part-time members of the
Australian Universities Commission. Professor Sunderland is Dean
of the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Melbourne, and
Professor of Experimental Neurology. Mr. Myer is Joint Managing
Director of Myer Emporium Ltdo.
