The General Election for the House of Representatives
will be held on Saturday, 2 December 1972.
It is proposed to recommend to His Excellency
the Governor-General that he dissolve the House of Representatives
on 2nd November 1972.
The date proposed for the issue of the writs is
2 November 1972 and for the close of nominations is 10 November

The Prime Minister, Mr. McMahon, said today that the
Government is undertaking an extensive review of its policy on the
promotion of direct Australian investment in neighbouring countries.
Mr. McNallon said that during his recent visit to Malaysia,
Singapore and Indonesia, he had discussed with the Heads of States
of those countries ways of furthering cemmercial relations between

I desire to inform the House that as required by the
Representation Act 1905-1964, the Chief Electoral Officer has
ascertained the numbers of the people of the Commonwealth and the
numbers of the people of the several States consequent upon the taking
of the Census on 30 June 1971. Copies of the Chief Electoral Officer's
certificate specifying the said numbers have been tabled.

overseas investment, I now wish to give details of the new exchange
control policy which will apply for the time being to portfolio
investment abroad by Australian residents.

Q. Prime Minister, there has been much agitation in
Australia, of course, over the last year about foreign
takeovers. It has been suggested that some of the takeovers
of the past year have not been in the interests of this country.
Do you feel that that is so?
PM: Many of them, in my opinion, have not been in the best
