INDONESIAN-AUSTRALIAN JOINT STATEMENT
At the conclusion of official discussions held at
Parliament House, Canberra, on 7 February, .1972, President Soeharto
of Indonesia and the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr McMahon, issued
the following joint statement.
" President Soeharto and Mr McMahon expressed their
satisfaction at the close relations which had developed
between the two countries.

GIFT TO THE PRESIDENT OF INDONESIA
Statement by the Primre Mlinister, Mr. William McMahon C. H., M. P.
At Parliament House today, the Prime3 Minister, the
Right Honourable William McMahon, presented an atomic
absorption spectrophotomieter to President Socharto of Indonesia
as a gift from the poole of Australia to the people of Indonesia.
In handing over the gift, Mr. McMahon said that
the spectrophotometer had been designed by Australian scientists
for making highly accurate and quick analyses of mineral samples

REPLACEMENT OF RAN DESTROYERS
Statement by Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. William McMahon, C. H., M. P.
The Prime Minister stated today that the Government
proposed to examine later this year the question of replacing W~ N
destroyers scheduled for retirement from front line service in the
late 70' s and early 80' s. The design and construction of these
ships was an exceedingly complex and time consuming process and
would have to be put in hand this year if ships were to be available

ARMY JUNGLE TRAINING CENTRE CANUNGRA
Statement by the Prime Minister, The Rt. Hon. William McMahon
C. H. , M. P.
The Prime Minister, Mr. McMahon, announced today that
Cabinet had approved the construction of additional training
O facilities at the Army Jungle Training Centre, Canungra, 40 miles
south-west of Brisbane.
The project, to cost a total of $ 7 million, will include
a new tactics training wing, new lecture rooms, additional sleeping
accomodation, messing and recreational facilities, and stores

ACCESS TO WAR-TIME GOVERNMENT PAPERS
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. William McMahon, CH, MP
The Prime Minister said that, as he had undertaken
on 6 January, the: Government had now given further consideration
to the policy of access to government documents for the
war-time period. The. Government has decided that the 50-year access
rule should in future apply to Cabinet papers, as it has since
December 1970 to the generality of departmental documents.

ARMY RE-ORGANISAT ION
Statement by the Prime Minister the Right Honourable
William McMahon, CH, MP.
The Prime Minister, Mr. McMahon, announced today that
Cabinet had approved extensive changes in the command and
organisational structure of the Australian Army. The changes,
which will come into effect over the next three to five years,
follow consideration of the Report of the Army Review Committee
under the Chairmanship of Major-General F. G. Hassett.
