Mr Holyoake and Mr Holt have had several discussions
in Canberra during the past two days on matters of common interect.
The New Zealand Minister for Defence ( Mr Thomsort and Australian
Ministers participated. New Zealand and Australian officials were also
present. These talks were supplemented by separate discussions among

It is not surpr. sing that the Labor Party has retained
in a by-election a seat it has held for the last six years.
No doubt it w4ll try to make much of its victory, but
a close analysis of the poll figures at Saturday's end of count gives it
little cause for encouragement. Compared with the count at the same
stage in the general election of 1c6,. the Labor vote has increased by

At the invitation of the Commonwealth of Australia, the President
of the Republic of Italy, the Honourable -GiuseppeS aragat, accompanied by
the Minister of Foreign ffairs, the Honourable Amintcre Fanfan., raid a
State visit to Australia from 25 September until 1 October, 1967. staying in
Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney.

Statement by the Frime Minister and Chairman of the Australian Loan Council, Mr Harold Holt

The Prime Minister, Mr Harold Holt, said today that a new Commonwealth cash loan will be open for public subscription from Friday, 6 October to Friday 13 October. The loan will be the second cash loan during the current financial year, the first having been issued in July last.

An offer of conversion will be made at the same time to holders of $272 million of Commonwealth securities maturing on 15 October.

I am pleased to announce that Frince Souvanna Phouma,
Frime Minister of Laos, has accepted the Government's invitation to
visit Australia. He will be accompanied by his daughter, Princess Moune
Souvanna Fhouma. The Prime Minister and Princess Moune will arrive in
Australia on Tuesday, 31st Cctober, and will remain until Saturday,

AUSTRALIAN LOAN IN GERMANY
Statement by the Prime Minister and Chairman
of the Australian Loan Council, Mro Harold Holt
The Commonwealth is negotiating the terms of a
public loan in Germany for an amount of 100 million Deutsche
Marks 22 million).
The loan will be underwritten by an international
banking syndicate managed by the Deutsche Bank Aktiengsellschafto
It will be Australia's first public issue in Germany.
