Comment by the Prime Minister, Mr Harold Holt
The principal decisions relating to British defence policy east
of Suez now announced in the British, Government's White Paper on Defence
have been the subject of consideration by the Australian Cabinet.
My visit to London in June this year was, of course, primarily
to discuss these important issues w-: h Mr Wilson and other senior members

Prime Minister's Reply to Mr. Monk
Following Cabinet consideration of the two telegrims
received from the President of the Mr. Monk, the Prime
Minister, Mr. Holt today sent a telegram to Mr. Monk in these
terms ( full text of telegram follows)
The Government last evening considered your telegrams of
last Friday and Monday.
The Postmaster-General and Minister for Labour and National
Service will be ready to meet with representatives of the A. C. T. U.

has little regard for the truth when it stands in his political path. In his

This afternoon the Government began its pre-Budget series of
economic corsultations when Ministers met representatives of the
A. C. T. U. The A. C, T U. representatives were Mr Albert Monk ( Fresident),
Mr J. D. Kenny ( Vice-President), Mr F. Evans ( Junior Vice-Fresident)
and Mr H. J. Souter ( Secretary).

HYDRO-ELECTRICITY DEVELOPMENT IN TASMANIA
joint Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Harold Holt
and the Premier of Tasmania, the Hlon. E. E. Reece
The Commonwealth has agreed in principle to provide
bridging financial assistance to Tasmania for the financing of a five-year
programme of accelerated hydro-electric development in that State based
on the commencement of development of the rugged Gordon River area in
the south-west of the State.
The five-year programme is estimated by the State to cost
