The Economic Planning Advisory Council ( EPAC) held its
second meeting today.
The meeting was attended by the recently appointed Director,
Geoff Miller, formerly Deputy Secretary of the Department of
Primary Industry.
The Council discussed with Mr Miller the role of EPAC, the
priority areas of EPAC's work in the near future, and the
progress of arrangements for EPAC staffing.
The meeting confirmed that the main role of EPAC is analysing
medium and long-term economic performance in Australia, and

A competition is to be held to find a design for a
memorial to the Royal Australian Navy.
The Canberra National Memorials Committee has approved the
establishment of the memorial in Anzac Parade, Canberra.
The memorial is to be completed by December 1985, in time
for its official unveiling durinq 1986 to mark the
anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy.
The memorial will be a most appropriate means of marking
the Navy's 75th Anniversary.
The commission for the memorial will be one of the most

" On behalf of the Government and people of Australia I congratulate you warmly on being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 1983. The courage, determination and dignity with which you have sought to ensure respect for the rights of Polish workers to freedom of association have won the admiration of governments and workers in many parts of the world.

The Leader of the Opposition was briefed this afternoon on the
reasons for, and the timing of, Australian Federal Police
decisions to connect, disconnect, reconnect and disconnect
certain authorised telephone intercepts.
He was briefed in my office by the Commissioner of the Australian
Federal Police, Mr R. A. Grey, as to the facts.
Mr Peacock was told that all decisions to discontinue telephone
intercepts were made by Commuissioner Grey personally and that

THERE'S NO DOUBT AT ALL THAT THE ELECTIONS ON THE
22ND OF OCTOBER ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT IN QUEENSLAND FOR MORE
THAN A QUARTER OF A CENTURY.
THAT'S NOT JUST BECAUSE OF WHAT THIS ELECTION MEANS
TO QUEENSLAND, IT'S WHAT IT MEANS To AUSTRALIA,
BECAUSE, WE WON'T BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE AND SUSTAIN

The Federal Government is planning to install the Australian-designed aircraft landing system ‘Interscan’ at a number of airports in Australia

Interscan - which is a world leader in its field  - was  developed as a joint project by the Department of Aviation and CSIRO in the early 1970’s

Submitted  jointly by Australia and the USA, the Interscan  principle was adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)  as the world-wide  standard for future landing systems
