The Prime Minister announced today that he had been invited
by the Government of the Republic of Korea to visit Seoul and
he proposed to do so early in 1984 as part of a planned visit
to countries in the North Asian region. Dates for the visit
to the Republic of Korea had not yet been finally agreed.
The Australian Government had been looking forward to
President Chun's planned visit to Australia in October,
which had been prevented by the tragic bombing in Rangoon.

The Federal Government has decided to declare Stage 2 of
Kakadu National Park in accordance with the provisions of
the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1975. In
addition a notice of intent to prepare a report recommending
declaration of Gimbat and Goodparla pastoral leases as
part of Kakadu National Park will be published by the
Director of National Parks and Wildlife.
In taking these steps, the Government is implementing

Today's statement by the Chairman of Citicorp Australia,
Mr Richard Jackson, that the transfer of the title of the
Uluru National Park to the traditional. aboriginal owners
shoula not ci::& ine-he' underlying security arrangements for
foreign loans for the project is welcomed by the Federal
Government. The Government particularly notes that Citicorp and the other
banks are still working toward the original deadline of
November 24 for signinq the international syndicated term facility.

to recommend to their members the concept of an Iron Ore
Industry Council.
This represents an important step towards the establishment
of a new tripartite Council, to improve consultation among
the parties and so to improve industrial relations in the
Pilbara.
My Government is firmly committed to strengthening the
competitive position of the Australian iron ore industries.

The Federal Government has agreed to transfer the title to Uluru
National Park to the traditional aboriginal owners.
Title to the park will be transferred from the Commonwealth
to an Aboriginal Land Trust established under the Aboriginal
Land Rights ( Northern Territory) Act.
The Government accepted the proposal put forward by the
aboriginal owners of the land that title would be transferred
to aboriginal ownership on the basis that the area would

Following the recent decisions taken by Cabinet and Caucus
on a range of uranium issues, the Australian Science and
Technology Council ( ASTEC) has been asked by the Government
to conduct an inquiry into a number of issues relating to
Australia's role in the nuclear fuel cycle.
The inquiry will examine in particular:

particular attention to the effectiveness of the bilateral

Mr. Hayden and I today called in the Thai Ambassador designate
and the Indonesian Ambassador. We discussed my forthcoming
visit to Thailand in the light of remarks made following the
ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Jakarta on
7 November. We expressed our concern at the implications of
remarks made by the Singaporean Foreign Minister,
Mr. Dhanabalan, concerning Australian policy towards Cambodia.
