PROPOSALS FOR TASMANIAN EMPLOYMENT CREATION CONSEQUENT ON
CESSATION OF THE GORDON-BELOW-FRANKLIN SCHEME
The Prime Minister, Mr Hawke,-said today he
advised the Tasmanian Premier, Mr Gray, on 12 October 1984
of a number of projects nominated by the Commonwealth to
be funded from the remaining amount of $ 9 million being
provided by the Commonwealth for employment creation in
Tasmania consequent upon the cessation of the

When I met your new High Commissioner, Sir John Leahy, in Canberra on Sunday I expressed to him our shock at the outrage in Brighton last week and our sympathy for the victims.

Their Excellencies the Governor-General of New Zealand and
Lady Beattie are to make a State Visit to Australia from
Wednesday, October 31 to WednesdayNovember 7 1984.
They will visit Canberra and Victoria.
It will be the first official visit to Australia by a
Governor-General of New Zealand since the visit of
Sir Arthur and Lady Porritt in 1971 and will be made at
the invitation of Their Excellencies the Governor-General
and Lady Stephen.
The visit demonstrates the continuing close relationship
between Australia and New Zealand.

On Budget night the Ministers for Social Security, Health, and Veterans' Affairs, announced a new home and community care program, which will provide a more comprehensive range of intergrated home and community care services targetted primarily at the frail aged and younger disabled people.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand is to visit Australia for the first time from October 17-  29 as a guest of the Commonwealth Government.

This visit will strengthen the fiiendly and close relationsalready existing between Australia and Thailand. 

Whilst in Australia the Princess will observe techniques for dry land farming, irrigation and crop production which could be particularly relevant to her country.

PRIME MINISTER: Well it may be Itf you want to come to that
conclusion. It is inaccurate because I made it clear from
fairly early in the peace that what I want~ ed'tod * o ' was to
bring an end to unnecessary elections in this country. So distinct
to any other Prime Minister I am going to the electorate now to
save an election. There would have to be a half Senate election
