REFORM THE NEVER-ENDING CHALLENGE
It is a great honour to be asked to deliver the
inaugural Frank Forde Memorial Address, and a pleasure
to be able to do so here in this city of Rockhampton,
with which Frank Forde was so closely connected
throughout his long career.
Although this is the occasion of the first Memorial
Address, it is also a continuation of the series of

Government going into the Summit with mr-re than half the

BUTTROSE: I'm alright.

BUTTROSE: I may be a new girl at 2KY but I think you're
copping a lot of flack. Tax must be a bit of a detestable
word for you at the moment.
PM: Yzs well before we go onto that Ita, congratulat-' ns
on your new appointment and the best of luck to you and the

The Government and I have today expressed our deepest
sympathy to the family of the two children who were
tragically killed yesterday in the bombing at Frankfurt
Airport. Our heartfelt wishes for the recovery of their
mother, grandmother and family friend who were seriously
injured in the blast have also been conveyed.
The message of sympathy and condolence has been sent to
the children's father, Mr Guerreiro, who is flying to
Frankfurt today.
I am appalled at the senseless slaughter and suffering

for your preferred tax position. Yet we've seen strong
opposition to all or part of it from various sections of
the community. Where's the evidence for your contention?

The Minister assisting the Prime Minister for the
Bicentenary, Mr Barry Cohen, and the Minister for Aboriginal
Affairs, Mr Clyde Holding, today announced the appointment of
Mr Eric Willmot, AM, to the Board of the Australian
Bicentennial Authority.
Mr Willmot brings to the position wide ranging knowledge and
experience, particularly in issues facing Aboriginal people.

which the big business and industry groups have reacted to
the idea of a voluntary code of conduct to Australian firms
in South Africa?
PM: I'm disappointed at the initial reaction. We will have
fuirther discussions with them and I believe that out of those
discussions we should be able to achieve a basis of operation

The US Government's recent announcement of a
program of export assistance for US agricultural exports
has wide-ranging implications for international trade in
agriculture. The US export enhancement program is
intended to increase US agricultural exports and challenge
unfair marketing practices.
As this program has evolved, the Australian Government has
brought to the attention of United States' authorities our
concerns about the program and identified legitimate

The Commonwealth Government will meet the costs of heart
and lung transplant patient Mr Les Pates.
The announcement of the decision was made following discussion
between the Acting Prime Minister, Mr Lionel Bowen, and the
Acting Minister for Finance, Mr Chris Hurford.
The decision has been reached after new information that the
proposed operation, which would be conducted in Pittsburgh
was no longer considered experimental by the doctors involved.
