HYWOOD: I want to ask you how long you intend staying Prime
Minister. Do you intend retiring around halfway through the next
Parliament if you win the next election? If so, do you believe
your reluctant Treasurer would be the best person to takeover?

SINGLETON: Today the Hawke Government turned three years old. it
is not surprising perhaps that most Australians are very divided
on the Hawke brand of Labor politics. Depending on your point of
view, Bob Hawke has either abandoned Labor's tradition roots or
he is the most brilliant politician since Robert Menzies. Well
Bob Hawke is speaking with Pru Goward in Canberra.

WILLISEE: It is three years today since the Labor Party regained
power in Canberra and Bob Hawke became Prime Minister. In that
time employment opportunities have been increased, inflation has
been contained but interest rates have soared. Now however you
analyse that the fact is that business community recognises that
the Hawke Government has done, at least, a reasonable job of
economic management. So much so that the Left Wing of the Labor

THIS IS IN EVERY WAY AN APPROPRIATE PLACE AND OCCASION TO
MARK THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF MY GOVERNMENT'S ELECTION IN

The Queen has given formal approval to various amendments to the
Constitution of the order of Australia. The amendments relate to
the removal of the provision to appoint Knights and Dames,
provide for representation of the Northern Territory and an
additional four non-government members on the Council for the
order of Australia as veil as an increase in the number of order
of Australia awards available each year from about 400 to 700.

The Queen has approved Letters Patent and Regulations
establishing the Australian Police Medal which will form part of
the Australian system of honours and awards.
The Regulations provide for the Medal to be awarded for
distinguished service by a member of an Australian police force.
The awards will be made by the Governor-General on the
recommendation of the Minister responsible for each police force
and will be notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette.

Her Majesty the Queen today signed the Proclamation to bring the Australia Act 1986 into operation. The Act will commence tomorrow at 4.00 pm, Eastern Summer Time, simultaneously with the Australia Act 1986 which was recently enacted by the United Kingdom Parliament at the request of the Commonwealth Parliament and all the State Parliaments.
