PERCY GRAINGER FESTIVAL
Statement by the Primie Minister, Mr. John Gorton
The Commonwealth has approved financial assistance for the
Percy Grainger Festival which is at present taking place in London.
An approach for assistance was received from Sir William McKie,
an Australian now retired in England, who is one of the Vice-Presidents
of the Festival, and Mr. Bryan Fairfax, also an Australian living in
London, who has organised the Festival.

PRIME MINISTER'S EXPOMESSAGES
The Prime Minister, Mr John Gorton, has despatched
two messages in relation to the opening of EXPO 70 in Osaka, Japan,
today ( Sunday 15 March).
The cables were as follows-

send their congratulations and warm good wishes to
Japan for the opening of EXPO 70 in Osaka.
We wish you every success with the first world

-QUEENSLAND -INDUSTRIAL DISPUTE
The Premier of Queensland, Mr Bjelke -Petersen, has
sent a telegram to the Prime Minister appealing to Mr Gorton to " exert
his urgent endeavours" to resolve an industrial dispute involving the
AMPOL and AMOCO Refineries.
The Prime Minister has replied as follows:-

ABOUT THE INDUSTRIAL DISPUTE AT THE AMPOL AND AMOCO
REFINERIES IN BRISBANE. I AM INFORMED THE DISPUTE

C. S. I. R. 0. SCIENTISTS STUDY OIL SLICK
Two C. S. I. R. 0. scientists both members of the Division
of Fisheries and Oceanography are being sent to Queensland to study the
effect of the oil that has escaped from the OCEANIC GRANDEUR.
The Government felt that in view of the forthcoming Royal
Commission into oil drilling on the Great Barrier Reef, it would be
valuable to gain as much knowledge as possible from the tanker incident.

SPECIAL NON-RECtJRR ING-REVENUE GRANT
At the meeting of the Premiers' Conference this evening,
the Prime Minister, Mr John Gorton, announced that the Commonwealth
would make a special non-recurring revenue grant of $ 12 million to
the States. This amount will be allocated in the same proportions as
the distribution of the 1969-70 financial assistance grants.

SIGNING OF AGREEMENTS FOR THE DARTMOUTH DAM
The Prime Minister and the Premiers of New South Wales,
Victoria and South Australia today signed the two agreements relating to
the construction of Dartmouth Dam.
One agreement amends the River Murray Waters Agreement
to authorise construction of the Dartmouth Dam on the Mitta Mitta River,
a tributary of the River Murray, while the other agreement relates to
the financial arrangements. The opportunity has also been taken to

CENTRAL QUEENSLAND POWER HOUSE
The Prime Minister and the Premier of Queensland today
issued the following statement:-
" Last September the Prime Minister announced the Commonwealth
Government's willingness to help finance a proposed power house
in Central Queensland.
It was believed that the establishment of this power house would
attract very significant industrial development to the Gladstone
area.

PORT AUGUSTA-WHYALLA RAILWAY
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr John Gorton
I am pleased to have signed today an Agreement with the
Premier of South Australia, Mr R. S. Hall, for the building of a
railway between Port Augusta and Whyalla.
( Mr Gorton had announced in his Election Policy Speech that
this railway would be built,
Under the Agreement signed today the railway will be a
standard gauge link to be financed, constructed and operated by the
Commonwealth. The cost of construction and rolling stock is estimated
