Mr Prime Minister, Ladies and Gentlemen
It is my great pleasure on this occasion to propose the
toast of our distinguished guest and I do this for a variety of reasons.
One, Sir, is because we are very glad indeed to welcome you here as
a person, and because we are very glad indeed to welcome you here as
the Prime Minister of Canada.
It is a long time I think 1958 s3ince we last had a visit

APPOINTMENT OF NATIONAL LIBRARIAN

Mr. A. P. Fleming, 0. B. has been appointed to the position
of National Librarian. Mr. Fleming currently holds the oYffice of Parliamentary
Librarian. Prior to taking up this appointment in 1968, Mr. Fleming was a
Special Commercial Adviser, Department of Trade and Industry.
He will assume the duties of National Librarian on the retirement
of Sir Harold White in June.

Q. Mr Prime Minister, did you have any substantive talks
yesterday with Mvr Sato about Cambodia? Could you tell us how
close are Australian and Japanese attitude s to the Cambodian
issue and America'is recent actions there?
PM: Yes, we did have some discussion on the Cambodian
situation which has of course been caused initially by the North
Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia's neutrality. I think we are

CHANGES IN TOP PUBLIC SERVICE POSTS
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr John Gorton
A number of changes in top Public Service posts
will take place as a result of the retirement on 22 July of. the Chairman
of the Repatriation Commission, Brigadier Sir Frederick Chilton.
Mr Richard Kingsland, who has been Secretary of the Department of
the Interior since 1963, will succeed Sir Frederick as Chairman of the
Repatriation Commission. The Secretary of the Department of External

INQUJIRY INTO DRILLING FOR PETROLEUM

DROUGHT RELIEF IN QUEENSLAND

GREAT BARRIER REEF OIL DRILLING INQUIRY
Statement by thePrnime Minister, Mr. John Gorton
The Prime Minister said today that he and the Premier of
Queensland expected to be in a position in the near future jointly to
announce the composition of the Royal Commission to inquire into the
risk of damage to the Great Barrier Reef from drilling for oil.
The Inquiry will be conducted under the Commonwealth's
Royal Commissions Act 1902-1966 and Queensland's Commissions of
Inquiry Acts 1950 to 1954.
