THE AUSTRALIA CENTRE IN NEW-YORK
The Prime Minister, The Rt Hon. Malcolm Fraser,
announced today that the Australian Government will establish
an Australian Centre in New York.
The Centre will be located in a prestige highrise
building now under construction at the corner of Third Avenue
and 48th Street, Manhattan.
It will accommodate both the Australian Consulate-
General in New York and the Australian Mission to the United

Sir Bernard Callinan, distinguished guests, ladies gentlemen, today's ceremony marks the beginning of  a great undertaking. For the construction of a new Parliament House, involving the skills and labour of very many people over some seven years, will provide a permanent home for the national Parliament. It will become a focal point for the nation.

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN DROUGHT ASSISTANCE
TO PRIMARY PRODUCERS
The Prime Minister today announced that following con 4aEj~
of an approach from the Premier, -the Commonwealth Government
has agreed to provide further drought assistance to
Western Australia.
Mr. Fraser said that the Commonwealth has agreed to the
financing of freight subsidies under the Natural Disaster
Relief arrangements in the State's drought-affected central
wheatbelt region, for the transportof stock to and from
agistment and for the transport of fodder.

STATEMENT TO THE HOUSE
ON MULTI-NATIONAL EXERCISES
I informed the House on 19 February, 1980, when I outlined
the Government's response to the-Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan,
that we intended discussing with our regional friends the
further development of our defence relations with them.
Amongst the specific measures that I mentioned then were
combined exercises between the Australian defence force and
Forces of our South East Asian neighbours.,

The Commonwealth Government has decided to support the establishment of the Australian Bureau of Criminal Intelligence which was recommended at the meeting of the Australian Police Ministers' Council on 29 August, 1980. The Bureau, which will clearly require some time to become operational, will be concerned with a broad range of law enforcement intelligence covering all forms of criminal activity. The Prime Minister has sought Premiers' comments
on this proposal.

Federal Government assistance to local bodies throughout
Australia will exceed $ 300 million this financial year.
This follows implementation of the Government's commitment
to increase the allocation of personal income tax collections
to local Government to 2 per cent.
Local authorities have received $ 300.79 million compared
with $ 221.74 million last financial year a massive
35.65 per cent increase in general revenue assistance.
Overall, local Government will have received over $ 1,000 million
