PRIME MINISTER
FOR MEDIA SUNDAY, JUNE 21 1981
ELECTORATE TALK
The meetings between the Commonwealth and the states on Friday
and Saturday were important and productive. I believe that
the decisions that we reached are the right ones for Australia-. as
a whole and.. for each state at this time. The decisions will
have considerable ramifications and benefits for all Australians.
Perhaps the most important issue was the level of borrowings
for Government projects. For some time the Commonwealth has

His term of office as Premier of South Australia for 26 years,

No Australian Premier nor for that matter any Australian
political leader has served a longer term in office.
Sir Thomas Playford grandson of a former Premier of the

Nearly three years ago, the Commonwealth and all State
Governments decided -to face up to the difficult problem of
relativities in financial assistance grants to the States,
and for the first time in Australia's history, to have a
comprehensive, independent review of the distribution of
those grants. We expect the recommendations of that so-called
review of relativities to be released within a few days.
In all Federations, there is a significant problem that
