STATEMENT TO THE PARLIAMENT ON THE
COMMONWEALTH HEADS OF GOVERNMENT MEETING
Mr Speaker, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting,
held in Melbourne and Canberra between 30 September and 7 Octobe;
was a success for Australia and the Commonwealth, and it can
be expected to have an influence on world discussions..
The meeting confounded the critics who had predicted that
differences of view would lead to division, and that irrelevant

ELECTORATE TALK
We live in a troubled and uncertain world, in which it sometimes
seems that stability and a clear sense of direction are almost
the exception rather than the rule.
The assassination of President Sadat is not only a tragedy for
his country and for stability in the Middle East, but it also
serves to remind us of the damage that is caused when
unreasonableness and division are allowed to take first place in
human affairs.

ADDRESS TO SYDNEY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE,
MENZIES HOTEL, SYDNEY
Organisations such as the Sydney Chamber of Commerce with
strong traditions of support for the free enterprise system
have a significant role in maintaining the freedom and
prosperity that Australians can so easily take for granted.
I am very pleased to be here tonight and I want to discuss
the Government's economic approach and also take a look at
some wider aspects of the market economy and the free society.
