TEXT OF ADDRESS BY PRIME MINISTER AT LOCOMOTIVE NAMING AT
CLYDE INDUSTRIES, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
-I regard it as a great honour to have a new locomotive named
after me, particularly as it is the first of. a new class of
locomotives for A. N. R.
The builders are to be congratulated on the latest example
of their craft.
I understand that locomotives have been named after a number of
former Prime Ministers.
I hesitate to ask what has happened to each of them.

ADDRESS TO THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF DIRECTORS
a Tonight I want to talk about the Government's economic strategy.
W Since -the election,, we have followed a consistent plan to
bring about economic recovery. We announced that strategy
during the election campaign last year. It is the right strategy.
It is the only strategy which holds out a real prospect
of a soundly based recovery and long term expansion of job
opportunities. The over-riding objective of that strategy is

I am delighted to be here today at a function that helps celebrate the 50th birthday-of an old acquaintance.

I have been reading the Canberra Times for around 21 years. That is what happens when people come to Canberra as politicians  they have to read the Canberra Times. It is almost the golden rule. I must confess that over the years the Canberra Times news and comment pages have filled me with a variety of emotions.

They still do.

ELECTORAL TALK
The drought now affecting the rural community in many parts
of Australia is emerging as one of Australia's. biggest
farming problems.
Across the rich agricultural and pastoral areas of Australia
the severe drought conditions are daily growing more important.
In Victoria for instance, very large parts of the State are
affected by the drought, while in South Australia all of the
local government authority areas are severely affected.

OPENING OF THE. WINDSOR COMM4UNITY AND CULTURAL CENTRE
I am very pleased to be with you today for the opening of
this magnificent community and cultural centre.
The re-enactment we have just seen recalls one of the most
outstanding of the colonial Governors, Lachlan Macquarie.
It is a remarkable testimony to the quality of Lachlan
Macquarie that after a century and a half he is still
remembered for his contribution to the building of Australia.

NEW SOUTH WALES LIBERAL PARTY CONVENTION
This last year has been an epic year for the Liberal Party..
The New South Wales Party made a major contribution to the
victory in the Federal election.
One of the great qualities of the Liberal Party, which has been
demonstrated again and again in both state and federal politics,
is its capacity for regeneration for the rekindling
of enthusiasm for its rededication to the ideals for which
the Party stands.
