PARJIAMENTARY LUNCHEON FOR LEE KUAN YEW
In welcoming you to Australia we all recognise that we are
welcoming a most remarkable man. Through you, Singapore has
built for itself a position in the region and beyond which
larger states might well envy.
We in Australia are now undertaking the difficult task of
restoring a large and complex economy to prosperity. Your
success in controlling inflation stands as a remarkable example
of what can be done. Inflation in Singapore averaged 24%~ in

FLOODING IN QUEANBEYAN AND THE A. C. T.
The Prime Minister announced this morning that the Commonwealth
would join in providing financial assistance for the
relief of immediate personal hardship and distress to
persons affected by the flooding.

ELECTORAL TALK
The Federal Treasurer, Phillip Lynch, renewed the Government's
offer of a fair and reasonable partnership for foreign investors
when he addressed a conference in Sydney this week.
He was careful to emphasise that the Government's priority
remains domestic economic policy. There is good reason, he
reported to the conference in Sydney, for confidence in Australia's
economic prospects.

TRANSCRIPT OF FARMERS FEDERATION OCTOBER 14,_ 1976
P. M. Inaudible If all sections of the commpnity could adopt an equivalent
attitude, I think we would work our way out of our difficulties
very quickly indeed.
The last few years and still the present, are obviously
difficult for rural industries. National prosperity can't
be built on a declining rural sector; on a rural sector that
is not adequately profitable. It can't be built if the
manufacturing industry isn't adequately profitable. All
industries and all Australians are basically independent.

IVOR GREENWOOD
Mr Speaker: It is with great sadness that I inform the House
that Ivor Greenwood, Senator for Victoria, died this morning.
Ivor Greenwood's death is a tragedy that has made a heavy impact

very great ability, at the height of his powers, with a major
contribution to make to his country.
I know that I speak for all Members of this House when I express
our deepest sympat'-hy to his family to his wife and children.
