FOR PRESS QUEEN'S SILVER JUBILEE MEDAL
Last year, Her Majesty approved the institution of a Silver
Jubilee Medal to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary
of her accession to the throne. The Medal is a personal
award from the Queen to members of the Crown services and
others in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth
countries.
Awards of the Silver Jubilee Medal to Australians are
being made on the recommendations of the Commonwealth and
State Governments. They are one important element in

AUSTRALIA'S GIFT PORTRAIT OF THE QUEEN
To mark the occasion of the Queen's Silver Jubilee -the twentyfifth
anniversary of her becoming Head of the Commonwealth as
well as of the beginning of her reign the Prime Minister of
Australia, the Right Honourable Malcolm Fraser, today ( 7 June
1977) presented a portrait of The Queen to the Commonwealth
Secretariat.

The next scheduled meeting of the Federal Cabinet
will take place in Brisbane on Tuesday 14th June 1977.
It is understood that the only previous occasion
when there has been such a meeting in Brisbane was a meeting
of the Ministry in Ju. 1957 at a time when Sir Arthur Fadden
was Acting Prime Minister.
Premiers and other State Ministers meet in Canberra

SPEECH BY THE PRIME MINISTER AT MANSION HOUSE, LONDON, 2 JUNE 1977.
I am most grateful for the invitation from Mr. Callaghan to visit
the United Kingdom. This is my first official visit to Britain as
Prime Minister, and I am enjoying my discussions both with Prime
Minister Callaghan and his colleagues, and I am looking forward to
participating in the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting
next week.
My visit is also timed to enable me to participate in the Silver

I am grateful for the opportunity to speak to you today, just five
days before the 1977 Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting opens
at Lancaster House. It will be the first time that I will have
attended one of these meetings. No doubt, I will be better equipped
to speak about the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting after it
is over. But as so often happens, it is the demands of the itinerary

MEAT EXPORTS TO THE MIDDLE EAST
The Government has decided to send a two man team to the
Middle East to look at the adequacy of cold storage facilities
for Australian meat exported there.
The team will include a senior officer from each of the
Departmentof Overseas Trade and Primary Industry. Arrangements
for the mission are being put in hand immediately.
The Government is aware of the importance to Australian meat

ALLEGATIONS OF C. I. A. ACTIVITY IN AUSTRALIA
We have seen over the last four weeks efforts to expose some
of Australia's most closely held secrets and to publicise
allegations based on hearsay or worse, to the embarrassment
of Australla's relations with the United States our closest ally.
Accordingly, I believe it is important that I make a statement on
these matters and attempt to put them in a proper perspective.

GOVERNMENT POLICY ON NUCLEAR SAFEGUARDS
The future course of world nuclear developnent and the regime
of international controls which should apply to such development
are currently subjects of great international interest. In the
past few w eeks for example, there has been an important statement
by-President Carter on nuclear energy in which he emphasised
the need to restrain the spread of nuclear weapons or explosive
capabilities without foregoing the tangible benefits of nuclear

NATIONAL WAGE CASE
The announcement today by the Full Bench of the Conciliation
and Arbitration Commission in the national wage case marks
the end of the incomes and prices pause.
The pause which had the support of the seven Heads of Government
in Australia seemed to offer a unique opportunity to break
the incomes prices spiral and thus slow down inflation.
Employer bodies gave substantial cooperation with the result
that a prices pause has effectively been in place since 13 April.

Mr. John Howard, the Minister for Business and Consumer Affairs,
has been appointed also Minister Assisting the Prime Minister.
He will continue to hold his present portfolio.
Mr. Howard will be assisting across the whole range of
matters handled by the Prime Minister other than the areas
covered by other Ministers assisting the Prime Minister.
