The Prime. Yinister said today that the 25% increase
i3n beef quotes. announced by the-Japanese Government was very
enaw-raging and-would, significantly assist the Austra. lian
beef ', industry.. Mr Frase..--said that the next 6 months quota would be
50*, 00, tonnes. compared with the present quota of 40y000 tonnes.
The PrIxe Minister-recalled that he had discussed
bee'f quotas with the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr Thikuda,
while Kuala Lumpur early in August for the Post-ASEAN

LIVESTOCK MARKETING
The Prime Minister today announced that he had telexed the
Premiers of all States seeking their cooperation with the
Commonwealth in a full and urgent review of ways in which
present livestock marketing systems could be improved.
He referred to three special areas where possible improvements
should be examined as a matter of urgency:
SThe control of anti-competitive practices such as
collusion and lot splitting in livestock auctioning.
SThe introduction of a weight and grade selling system
for cattle.

STATEMENT TO PARLIAMENT
Mr Speaker, I wish to inform the House that the Government has
recommended to His Excellency the Governor General that the
House of Representatives be dissolved on 10 Novemberinext
and that a general election for the members of the House of
Representatives be held onSaturday, 10 December.
His Excellency has accepted my recommendation.

OPENING OF ENTERPRISE WEEK, SYDNEY
At the outset, I want to congratulate Enterprise Australia on the
way it has set about its task of promoting the cause of free
enterprise in this country. Too often a vital cause is neglected
and gradually eroded because people take it fo~ r granted.
The overwhelming advantages to all Australians of our free
enterprise system are too vital to be left unsaid.
The entire community benefits from an efficient and prosperous
private sector. It provides the means of achieving a real increase

ELECTORATE TALK
This week's announcement of a 2 percent increase in the
Consumer Price Index for the September quarter is good news for
Australia. It is good news for big companies,. small companies
for farmers and its certainly good news for families.
It is the first time in more than four years that the rate of
increase has been held below 2.5 percent in each of three
successive quarters. It confirms that Australia's rate of inflation

STATEMENT IN THE HOUSE: JOINT DEFENCE SPACE RESEARCH FACILITY
The House will recall that on 9 December 1966 the Australian and
United States Governments entered into an agreement regarding
the establishment of a Joint Defence Space Research Facility.
This Facility was subsequently set up at Pine Gape, outside
Alice Springs.
The 1966 Agreement was for ten years and has been terminable
at one year's notice by either party since 9 December 1975.

AUSTRALIA/ JAPAN SUGAR AGREEMENT
The Prime Minister said today that he was very pleased at the
developments in the negotiations on the Australia/ Japan sugar
contract. Mr.. Fraser was commenting on the interim settlement between the
Australian and Japanese parties regarding the Australian sugar
currently afloat. in-Tokyo. Bay.
The Prime Minister recalled that he had discussed the sugar
contract with the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Fukuda, in Kuala

ADDRESS TO THE SYMPOSIUM OF ACADEMY OF TECHNOLOGICAL SCIENCES
I would like to congratulate the Australian Academy of Technological
Sciences on holding its first invitation symposium.
The Academy' s inauguration in February 1976 was a significant
step forward for Australian technology, bringg tchiiologists
from all fields together at a time when the need for technological
