2016 Australia-New Zealand Leaders’ Meeting

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will welcome New Zealand Prime Minister John Key to Sydney for the annual Australia-New Zealand Leaders’ Meeting on 19 February.

Australia and New Zealand share a unique and close partnership which is underpinned by shared history and values. We share a common view of the world and work closely together in the region and internationally to advance our common interests.

The Prime Ministers will discuss ways to promote ever-closer business links between our two countries. They will both speak at the Trans-Tasman Business Circle lunch.

In 2014-15, trans-Tasman goods and services trade was valued at around $23.4 billion. Australia is New Zealand’s largest investor, with Australia’s investments totalling $99.9 billion in 2014.

Prime Ministers Turnbull and Key will discuss important regional and global issues including domestic and global efforts to counter terrorism; the situation in Iraq and Syria; and our engagement in the Pacific. The Prime Ministers will discuss ways to deepen economic reform and enhance cooperation on science, innovation and cyber security. The leaders will also continue discussions on the movement of citizens between our two countries.
