Prime Minister Julia Gillard today announced Senator Kate Lundy will have a renewed focus on multicultural affairs in her role as Parliamentary Secretary assisting the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship.
The decision comes ahead of the unveiling of the Government's new multicultural policy to be outlined by Minister Bowen tonight.
As part of this new strategy, Senator Lundy will focus on the promotion of multiculturalism in the Parliament and the community on behalf of the Gillard Labor Government.
Senator Lundy will also work to combat racial discrimination in our community to ensure everyone has access to the same opportunities in life, regardless of their background.
The Prime Minister said she had agreed that Senator Lundy's title would be updated to Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs to reflect this renewed focus.
Senator Lundy will also continue in her role as Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister.
