Mrs Rosemary Sinclair to Represent Australia at the UN Special Session on Children

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Rosemary Sinclair as my Personal Representative for the United Nations Special Session on Children. The Special Session will be held in New York from 19-21 September 2001.

Mrs Sinclair has extensive experience working for families and children and is Chairman of the Australian Council for Children and Parenting. Mrs Sinclair has also initiated several community-based programmes to support families and parenting, including:

? - the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect;

? - the Good Beginnings national parenting programme, which has volunteers in communities across Australia helping families with young children who are in need of encouragement and support; and

?- the CLUB 200 fundraising strategy to support Good Beginnings programmes.

Mrs Sinclair has also served on the New South Wales Child Protection Council as a community member, been a member of the Board of Directors of Life Education Australia and a board member of the YWCA of Sydney.

The UN Special Session has been called to review and build on progress since the World Summit for Children a decade ago. Heads of Government were invited by the UN to appoint a Personal Representative to the Special Session.

As my Personal Representative, Mrs Sinclair will share Australia's experience with other countries represented at the Summit. She will be accompanied by a small Australian Government delegation.
