overnor General's Term of Office
Her Majesty The Queen has agreed to extend the term of office of the Governor-General, His Excellency the Hon Sir William Deane, AC, KBE, until 30 June 2001.
Sir William has performed his duties as Governor-General with dignity and distinction.
The extension will mean that Sir William and Lady Deane will participate in their official capacities in a number of the significant events planned to commemorate the Centenary of the Federation of the Commonwealth of Australia in 2001.
