New Chairman of CSIRO
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr David Charles Allen as
the new Chairman of the Board of the Commonwealth Scientific and
Industrial Research Organisation ( CSIRO).
Mr Allen will initially join the CSIRO Board as a member. He will take
over the role of Chairman from Professor Adrienne Clarke on 5 December
1996.
Mr Allen has the range of skills and experience essential to undertake the
Chairmanship of Australia's largest research institution. His technlmical
skills and extensive experience in commerce and management will be a
great asset to the CSIRO Board.
Mr Allen has extensive international work experience in the field of
geophysics and mineral exploration. He was the Managing Director of
Woodside Petroleum Limited from 1.982 to 1995. Currently he is a director
of the National Australia Bank Ltd, Earthwatch Australia Ltd, Amcor Ltd
and the Australian Gas Light Company.
Mr Allen's strong management skills and his close association with the
business community will help provide firm leadership towards enhancing
CSIRO's strategic linkages with industry and universities.
