ASSISTANCE TO COMMON WEALTH TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT
Australia will make two further contributions to Commonwealth programs.
A contribution of $ 100,000 will be made to the Commonwealth Partnership for
Technology Management which Is being officially launched today.
The Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management Is a non-profit
company which provides a network of contacts for technology management
and problem solving in Commonwealth countries. It Is a partnership of
government, private sector and academic institutions established as a
company In order to give It Increased access to prtvatesector expertise and
funding. The funding will assist Commonwealth members to develop improved
technology management capabilities.
Australia will also contribute a further $ 150,000 to the Commonwealth Fund
for Technological Cooperation for a study to review how the Commonwealth
might better help small states overcome obstacles to increasing their exports.
The Commonwealth already provides advice at a government policy level to
help members take advantage of the greater trade opportunities and deal with
the challenges presented by global trade lberalisation since the post Uruguay
round. This study will Identify measures to help small states, especially Pacific island
states, overcome practical constraints St various stages to production,
marketing and exports for example by use of short term advisers.
