STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER, THE HON P J KEATING, MP
VISIT BY COMMONWEALTH SECRETARY-GENERAL
I am pleased to announce that the Secretary-General of the
Commonwealth, Chief 8leaza Anyaoku, will visit Australia from 7 to
June as a guest of the Australian Government
Chief Anyaoku is visiting Australia, as well as a number of other
regional Commonwealth countries, for consultations on Commonwealth
issues in preparation for the fort~ hcoming Commonwealth Heads of
Govemnment Meeting, to be held in Cyprus from 21 to 25 October.
Chief Anyaoku paid a similar visit to Australia in 1991.
1 look forward to meeting Chief Anyaoku to discuss a range of
Commonwealth issues, particularly ways in which the Commonwealth can
maintain its vitality and best contribute to the interests of its*
members and of the wider international community.
