The Government will be recommending to the Governor-General
the follow-ing senior appointments
Mr Greg Taylor, Chairman of the Industries Assistance
Commission, as Secretary of the Department of
Employment, Education and Training. This follows the
retirement from that position of Dr Vince FitzGerald.
The appointment of Mr Taylor will take effect on 1
March 1989.
Mr Taylor has served in various senior positions with
the large part of his career being spent in the
Treasury. He has subsequently worked in the Office of
National Assessments and the Department of the Prime
Minister and Cabinet before taking up his present
post. Mr Noel Tanzer, presently Secretary of the Department
of veterans' Affairs, as Secretary of the Department
of Administrative Services. This follows the
appointment of Mr Graham Glenn from that position to
the Department of Industrial Relations. The
appointment of Mr Tanzer will take effect on 1 March
1989. Before taking up his position in the Department of
veterans' Affairs, Mr Tanzer had an extensive period
as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Social
Security. Before that, he had periods in the
Departments of Defence and Prime Minister and Cabinet,
and in the Public Service Board.
Mr Lionel Woodward, presently a Deputy Secretary in
the Department of Defence, as President of the
Repatriation Commission and Secretary of the
Department of Veterans' Affairs. This follows the
appointment of Mr Tanzer to the Department of
Administrative Services. The appointment of Mr
Woodward will take effect on 1 March 1989.
Before taking up his present post as a Deputy
Secretary in the Department of Defence in 1985, Mr
Woodward was Deputy Secretary in the Department of
Immigration and Ethnic Affairs. Before that he held
senior positions for many years in the Public Service
