I hope all Australians will now get enthusiastically behind
Melbourne's bid for the Games just as they so willingly
supported Brisbane's superb hosting of the 1982 Commonwealth
Games. Clearly the officials had an unenviable task, but the
various competing claims should now be set aside for the
common purpose of winning international support for
