Mr Geoffrey Kolts has retired as Commonwealth Ombudsman. Mr
Kolts, OBE, QC, formerly First Parliamentary Counsel, was
appointed Commonwealth Ombudsman on 1 July 1986. He retired
on October 31.
I extend my thanks to Mr Kolts for his distinguished
contribution to the Australian Public Service.
The Government will be moving quickly to appoint a new
Ombudsman. Pending that appointment Mr Kevin Sainsbury,
Deputy Commonwealth Ombudsman, will act as Ombudsman. Mr
Sainsbury joined the Ombudsman's office in 1978 and was
appointed as Deputy Commonwealth Ombudsman in 1986.
