The Governor-General of Fiji, His Excellency Sir Penaia
Ganilau, is visiting Australia from 8-19 August 1985.
The visit follows that by the Governor-General of Australia,
Sir Ninian Stephen, and Lady Stephen, to Fiji in September
last year.
Sir Penaia' s visit is a significant event emphasising the
already firm ties of friendship between Australia and Fiji.
It reflects the importance which Australia attaches to
further development of our relationship.
During his visit, Sir Penaia will visit New South Wales,
Queenslal~ d, the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia,
Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
In Canberra, he will lay a wreath at the Australian War
Memorial, inspect the Australian Defence Force Academy and
the new Parliament House site, attend a luncheon at
Parliament House and a State Dinner at Government House.
A ceremonial welcome by members of the Fijian community living
in the ACT is also planned.
