Her Majesty the Queen has been pleased to approve in principle
a recommendation by the Government for the establishment of a
medal to recognise distinguished service by members of Australian
police forces.
The new award, to be known as the Australian Police Medal,
will carry an entitlement to the use of post-nominals.
The APM will form part of the Australian system of honours
and awards and will be awarded in the name of the Sovereign
as Queen of Australia.
The formal criteria for the Medal will be announced when the
Queen approves the issue of Letters Patent governing the
award. I
