Mr. Darcy McGaurr has been appointed Secretary, Department
of the Special Minister of State as from 16 April 1984. The
position of Head of the Department became vacant as a
consequence of the appointment last December of Mr. John
Menadue as Secretary, Department of Trade.
Mr. McGaurr, 44, has just completed a three year assignment
as Principal Consultant to a trade and industry aid project
in the Philippines for the World Bank.
Prior to that he was for three years the Director of the
Cabinet Office with the Government of Tasmania.
During the period from 1973 to 1974, Mr. McGaurr was a
Special Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Lance
Barnard. From 1962 to 1970, Mr. McGaurr held various positions in the
Department of Defence, spending the last two years as
Principal Project Officer in the Systems Analysis Branch.
Mr. McGaurr has also held various academic positions and
spent three years ( 1975-1977) as a Member of the Development
Council of the Australian Defence Force Academy.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New
South Wales, a Master of Economics from the University of
Queensland, and a Diploma in Defence Systems and Management,
U. S. Naval Post-Graduate School, California.
