The Federal Government has allocated more than $ 3.9 million for
roads in the Toowoomba area this financial year.
Federal funding in the district includes $ 3.15 million for doubling
the number of lanes onlthe National Highway between Toowoomba and
Ipswich.
This will provide a high level of service for people of Toowoomba
and improve road transport and commuter facilities.
Specific projects in tie Commonwealth Roads Program include:
reconstruction works on the New England Highway
in Toowoomba ($ 1.05 million)
reconstruction works on the Esk-Hampton Road near
Crow's Nest ($ 450,000)
Local roads projects worth $ 141,000 under the ABRD Program
submi-tted by Toowoomba City Council have been approved for
1983/ 84 and will include reconstruction and widening in
Telford, Society, Wylie, Donald, Northern Jubb and Instow
Streets. The Federal Government is spending $ 272.4 million for roads
in the State of Queensland this financial year which is a
51.3 per cent increase over 1982/ 83.
This includes an additional $ 10 million to accelerate National
Highway works.
It is a massive investment in Queensland's roads and will have
a positive effect on job creation in the State.
