Mr Geoffrey Miller is to be appointed the Director of the Economic Planning Advisory Council Secretariat.
Mr Miller is at present Deputy Secretary, Department of Primary Industry. Hie earlier held the position of Director, Bureau of Agricultural Econmics. Mr Miller's academic qualifications and administrative experience fit him well for the task of setting up and running the Secretariat that will provide support for EPAC.
The purpose of EPAC is to provide independent communitybased advice to the Government on the broad conduct of economic policy, particularly in a medium and longer term context.
The membership of the Council is drawn from Commonwealth and State Governments, industry, the union movement, local government, consumer and welfare organisations.
EPAC's next meeting is scheduJed for October 7.
