DEPARTURE OF THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL AND LADY COWEN
SWEARING-IN OF SIR NINIAN STEPHEN AS GOVERNOR-GENERAL
Details of the arrangements for the departure from Canberra
of Their Excellencies the Governor-General, Sir Zelman and
Lady Cowen an~ d of the swearing-in of Sir Ninian Stephen as
Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, are as
follows:
Departure of the Governor-General and Lady Cowen
Their ExcellEncies will be accorded a ceremonial farewell
at the RAAF Base Fairbairn on Wednesday 28 July 1982. Their
Excellencies will arrive at Fairbairn at 11.00 am, the Governor--
General will inspect a Guard of Honour and be accorded a
21 Gun Salute
Their ExcellEncies will be farewelled by the Prime Minister,
and a number of Commonwealth and diplomatic representatives.
Members of the public who wish to attend the ceremony should
arrive at RAAF Base Fairbairn no later than 10.15 am.
Swearing in o1: the Right Honourable Sir Ninian Stephen GCMG,
KBE, KStJ, as Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia
Sir Ninian Stephen will be sworn in as Australia's
Governor-General by the Chief Justice of the High Court of
Australia at a ceremony at Parliament House on Thursday,
29 July 1982.
Sir Ninian an.-d Lady Stephen will arrive at Parliament House at
2.50 pm for a ceremony in the Senate Chamber at 3.00 pm.
Following the ceremony the Government will give a reception in
honour of Their Excellencies.
on leaving Parliament House at about 4.10 pm the Governor-
General will inspect the Guard of Honour.
Members of the public may view the military ceremonial at
the front of Parliament House.
The ceremony in the Senate Chamber will be televised nationally
by the Australian Broadcasting Commission.
