PRIME MINISTER CONGRATULATES ITALIAN WORLD
CUP SOCCER TEAM
The Prime Minister, Malcolm Fraser, today sent a telegram
of congratulations to the victorious Italian soccer team,
which won the 1982 World Cup final. Italy defeated West
Germany 3 goals to 1 in Madrid.
The text of the Prime Minister's telegram reads:
" Congratulations on a magnificent victory in
the World Cup. Australia's Italian community
today has justly celebrated your great win in
Madrid. All Australians of Italian origin are
rightly proud of the way you played in the
series. I am sure all Australian soccer fans
have thoroughly enjoyed following the 1982
. competition. Well done.
Look forward to the day when-Italy and Australia
can play off in the final. Malcolm Fraser
