CHANGEOVER OF GOVERNOR-GENERAL
Arrangements have been made for Sir Ninian Stephen to be sworn
as Governor-General in the Senate Chamber on Thursday, 29 July
at 3.00pm. The requisite oaths will be administered by the
Chief Justice of the High Court.
Sir Ninian relinquishes his duties at the High Court today.
Sir Ninian and Lady Stephen will leave Australia shortly to
make a customary call on Her Majesty The Queen prior to the
swearing in. On the way to London they will make brief
visits to Yugoslavia and Italy. Sir Ninjan and Lady Stephen
will return to Australia in mid-June via Canada where
Sir Ninian proposes to have discussions with the Canadian
Governor-General.
Sir Zelman Cowen and Lady Cowen will be given a ceremonial
farewell frorn RAAF Base Fairbairn on Wednesday morning, 28 July.
A farewell dinner in their honour will be held at Parliament
House on Tuesday evening, 27 July.
