ROYAL VISIT 1982
The Queen has accepted the Governmeni-t' s invitationl to)
extend her visit to Australia for the XII Commonwealth
Games to include Canberra so as to open the Australian
National Gallery on Tuesday, 12 October 1982. The Gallery
is designed to hold the National Collection that has been
built up over the past seventy years by successive Federal
Governments. The Duke of Edinburgh is due to arrive in B~ risbanle on
Wednesday, 29 Septe-mbcr 1982, and will open the Commonwealth
Games on Thursday, 30 September 1982.
The Queen will arrive in Darwin on Tuesday, 5 October 1982
and proceed to Brisbane on 1Wednesday, 6 October 1982.
Her Majesty has agreed to close the Games on Saturday,
9 October 1982.
The Queen and Prince Philip will also visit New South Wales
on Monday, 11 October 1982.
The detailed. programme to be undertaken by The Queen and
Prince Philip will be prepared in consultation between the
Commonwealth. and the States concerned and will be announced
in due course. 000---
